The surgery to lift the tissues of the face is known as a FACELIFT or RHYTIDECTOMY.
However, and before the sagging becomes too significant, there are treatments aimed at correcting the flaccidity of tissues in the face linked to age, manifesting in the shape of flaccidity, loss of facial contours and the presence of accumulations of fat.
If you are considering a tightening and lifting surgical procedure for the facial tissues, read this text carefully; in it you will find how it is performed, what results can be obtained and what type of complications can present. Ask your doctor and don’t hesitate to ask him any questions that occur to you.
Patients increasingly demand less invasive techniques, where the post-operative recovery is quicker and the results more natural, which is why the “Silhouette lift” technique is the benchmark for the resolution of these types of problems.

WHAT DOES A SILHOUETTE LIFT CONSIST OF?

Silhouette-Lift is a technique which uses “suspension” sutures to lift relaxed tissues.  The Silhouette Lift sutures consist of sutures of polypropylene, a non-reabsorbable suture material which has small hollow and absorbable cones (of polydioxanone, material reabsorbable in 9 months).  Its action mechanism is clear; the bases of the cones are located in the area of greatest traction of the tissues exercising support and suspension in the areas of flaccidity.
The sutures are introduced using a needle which penetrates the tissues.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

If you are a young patient who is beginning to notice relaxation in the facial tissues and the loss of the oval of your face, you would benefit from the suspension technique with a Silhouette Lift.
We will conveniently inform you of the advantages and disadvantages of the technique.

PLANNING THE SURGERY

It is very important that your surgeon explain the technique once your specific case has been analysed.  A full clinical history will be taken, a pre-operative study  carried out as well as your medical and surgical antecedents.  If you have a systemic disease of the likes of diabetes, hypertension or heart or respiratory disease, a report will be requested from your specialist.
Likewise a photographic study in various projections will be taken for the purposes of studying your case.
Between 4-6 points are marked out (on each side of the face) in the area of flaccidity, generally in the nasolabial furrow and an incision in the temporal area.
There are also cases in which flaccidity can be improved in the neck area.  In these, 2-3 sutures will be used on each side.

THE SURGERY

1.- Insertion of the sutures
Usually they are inserted through a 1cm incision in the scalp in the temporal area.  Between 4-6 threads are inserted each side.  The surgeon slides them, using a needle, through the superficial subcutaneous tissue until reaching the 4-5 points close to the nasolabial furrow.
2.- Anchorage
The suspension threads with their cones are anchored in the fat beneath the skin.
3.- Suspension
Once anchored they are tractioned and thereby suspend the sutures, lifting the tissues.
4.- Attachment
The sutures are attached to the temporal area (they are attached to the fascia of the temporal muscle).

THE SAFETY OF SILHOUETTE LIFT SUTURES

Silhouette Sutures have been approved by the FDA and the CEE.  Silhouette lift sutures are only inserted by plastic surgeons that have been specifically trained in the performance of this technique.  This training is both theoretical and practical as it includes live surgery.
On the official website Silhouette Lift – Spain, you can find a list of duly accredited Spanish plastic surgeons.

THE ANAESTHESIA

The suspension of the tissues with Silhouette Lift sutures is performed under local anaesthetic and endovenous sedation.  It takes just 45 minutes and hospitalization is not necessary.
Recovery is quick so that patients can resume their social lives within just 4 days.

DURATION OF THE RESULTS

It is estimated that the duration of the results is four years.
Silhouette lift is not an alternative technique to a facelift.
Silhouette Lift does not replace a traditional facelift. It is only a solution for the treatment of the relaxation of facial tissues and to delay a facelift.

ALL SURGERY INVOLVES A RISK

When the surgery is performed by a duly qualified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Enrique Etxeberria complications are scarce. However, the complications that may present themselves are infection, haematoma and dimples in the surface of the skin.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a Silhouette Lift?
Silhouette Lift is a technique that uses suspension sutures: “Silhouette Sutures”. The Silhouette Lift is indicated to lift and support relaxed tissue from the middle third of the face, using absorbable cones which characterise these new sutures.  These cones permit traction and very strong support of soft tissues.  The sutures are fixed in the temporal area through an incision of one centimetre’s width, hidden in the scalp.

What are the advantages of a Silhouette Lift?
The Silhouette Lift is indicated for defining the oval of the face, improving the nasogenian fold, the neck and the eyebrows.

Am I the ideal patient for a Silhouette Lift?
If you have begun to notice relaxation in the facial tissues and loss of the oval of your face, you will benefit from the Silhouette Lift technique, on the condition that you follow the advice of a surgeon specialising in cosmetic, aesthetic or dermatological surgery.

Does a Silhouette Lift require general anaesthetic or hospitalization?
The Silhouette Lift is performed with local anaesthetic and without the necessity for hospitalization.

How long does the procedure last?
The procedure requires some 45 minutes for the face and 25 minutes for the neck.

Can I have confidence in the Silhouette Sutures?
The Silhouette Sutures have been approved by the US FDA and the CEE.  These approvals are unique in the marketplace.
All the doctors and surgeons referred to have been trained to perform the Silhouette Lift technique.  This training is both theoretical and practical as it includes live surgery.

How long for recovery?
Patients can return to their normal activities three days after the procedure, but generally some six days are needed to recover fully your natural appearance.

What about the results?
The results above all are natural.  Your appearance will be less tired, your face will look fresher but you will continue being you. This rejuvenation will retain all your vivid expressions.

How long do the results last?
Until today, the follow-up on Silhouette Sutures is six years for cosmetic surgery and for reconstructive surgery in the USA.  Our research and development team consider the duration of the results to be four years.  But the sutures can be re-tensed and thereby provide significantly longer duration.
Unfortunately, no rejuvenation procedure can halt the ageing process.

Why is the Silhouette Lift the best procedure available on the market?
Silhouette Sutures are used in other areas of Plastic Surgery.  Many surgeons use Silhouette Sutures to treat facial paralysis and also for reconstructive surgical procedures.
The Silhouette Lift technique is the most reliable using sutures based on the unique design of the hollow cones which guarantees very strong support for the tissues.
In addition, the Silhouette Sutures do not break once correctly inserted into the tissue, there is no risk of migration or moving within the tissue.
In being non-absorbable, the traction and the suspension effects are long-lasting.

Who should I contact to benefit from this new rejuvenation technique?
The company distributing Silhouette Sutures requires that all qualified Plastic Surgeons undertake specific training if they are to offer the Silhouette Lift technique to their patients.
You can ask them for their names and locations.  They are the only ones who can reliably and safely perform this technique.

Is the Silhouette Lift an alternative for a traditional facelift?
A Silhouette Lift cannot replace a traditional facelift.  It is an effective solution for the early relaxation of facial tissue and to delay the need for a traditional facelift by some years.
